Low tier demons take the form of shadows. Many of them are benign and simply need to be guided back to their home.
Mid tier demons can take the form of both animals and humans in addition to being shadows. Their human disguises can be easily seen through by a Slayer's eyes. Many will not become aggressive unless they become fixated on a human. BEWARE: A demon should be disposed of immediately if they show signs of wanting to take a human with them to their world. Mid tier demons that are our allies can be identified by a Mark. Even if they are allies remain cautious of them.
High tier demons are to be avoided at all costs. They will usually mind their own business, but if you come across a malicious one it is advised that you find help. They can masquerade as normal humans, even to a Slayer's eyes. Our tattoos can help us identify high demons in human form.
Our tattoos are Angelic symbols that help us fight demons. It takes a certain amount of strength to be able to receive our Marks and the strongest of us will have the most tattoos. They are given by the current head slayer in each community. Every slayer receives hand tattoos, that serve as our most simple weapons and ways to notify us if any demons are nearby. But don't fret, they're invisible to normal humans.
Baby sister, if I don't make it out of this war alive, know that you are stronger than you think you are. I'll always be with you, even in death.
Closing your brother's journal with a sigh, you put the tattered book back onto its place on the shelf.
"Why did you leave me all alone?" You wiped your teary eyes.
Your best friend had recently started seeing a new guy. She described him as devilishly handsome and between his piercing grey eyes, flawless ivory skin, and perfectly styled raven hair you could say she was right. She wanted to introduce him to you so she invited you her favorite cafe for coffee.
He was perfectly polite, introducing himself as Levi and buying everyone coffee. But you couldn't shake the feeling that he was one of them. Your tattoos, invisible to normal humans, burned white hot on your palms.
You closed your eyes for a moment, attempting to calm your nerves. You had never had to confront a demon so powerful. Only high demons were able to assume perfect human form.
But when you opened your eyes again you noticed there was a mid level demon hovering menacingly behind the couple. You prayed that was the reason your Marks were flaring up.
You brushed your hair out of your face, performing the movement so you could mask holding up your palm.
A glowing white dagger was launched from your hand.
If he's human the dagger shouldn't harm him.
You held your breath as the dagger sailed towards Levi

and straight through, hitting the demon with a burst of white flames.
You let out a sigh of relief. If Levi did turn out to be a high demon you didn't have a weapon strong enough to even stand against him.
You grew up knowing nothing about the world of demons or demon slaying. It was on your sixteenth birthday that you were presented with your first blade. Pure white and angelic, it glowed when you gripped it. It was your older brother that had taught you everything, in fact he had practically raised you. Your parents were world renowned demon slayers, so they were almost never home. Before you knew about the world of demons you had been told that they were away on business trips.
The day the two of them died you had been told there was a car accident while they were on business. It was a closed casket ceremony as there had been a fire and their bodies were too burnt and mangled to be seen. It was on your sixteenth birthday that you learned the truth. They were killed by a group of high demons. You had refused to accept your new position as a demon slayer and had ran from your home. But that's when your eyes began to truly see. Before touching that angelic blade you were like any other human, blind to the world of demons. Once you stepped out of the protection of your heavily fortified home, you saw them.
They were everywhere.
Many of them were simple shadows and ignored you as your stared, but some noticed your terrified gaze.
A particularly human looking demon had noticed you and approached. He could smell your fear. His outer shell was quite handsome and disturbingly human, but you could see it flickering away as you focused in on him. His eyes were beady and pitch black. His skin was so white it was almost translucent.
"Well well well, what do we have here." His voice was like silk.
Before you could run away he grabbed your wrist and pulled you against his chest. "The smell of an unmarked slayer is absolutely delectable."
"S-someone help me!" You screamed, trying to free yourself from his grasp.
People didn't seem to hear you at all.
"Have they taught you nothing? We demons can make ourselves and our chosen victims invisible to normal humans and you my dear Slayer are my newest victim. Lucky girl, I'm kinder than most and I promise this will feel good."
Your eyes widened in fear and you continued to scream.
But something inside of you told you to fight
So you did. Your new blade heard your resolve and appeared in your hand.
Your entire body lit up with white hot light, causing the demon to hiss and recoil as he was burned. Taking advantage his surprise you rushed towards him, screaming, and stabbed him in the chest. He let out a yowl as his body burst into white flames.
The flames eventually disappeared leaving you alone and completely stunned. You dropped to your knees and your blade disappeared.
You heard your brother calling for you, but you couldn't move.
Still petrified with shock, your brother gathered you into his arms. "It's okay now baby sis... You're safe now."
He had brought other, more experienced slayers along with him. They kept their voices hushed, but you could still hear them.

But your slumber didn't last long. Your Marks began to burn into your body, causing you to jolt awake. This time the glowing white light went from your hands and up to your arms.
There couldn't be demons here, in the house?! Slayer homes were enchanted so that no demon could enter.
And yet the burning wouldn't stop. Getting out of bed, you threw open your closet and grabbed your most powerful blade.
Your bedroom began to shake. The doorknob across the room began to turn and your Marks burned brighter.
The door flew open and before you could strike whatever force was after you, you were engulfed in darkness.
Your time at the cafe was perfectly pleasant. Levi was a little rough around the edges and a man of few words but you could see he treated your friend well. But when you left the couple to go to class you still couldn't shake the feeling that there was something off about him. The burning in your tattoos disappeared after you had disposed of the mid tier demon, but he still unsettled you. Perhaps it was his hard gaze. Your friend had mentioned it took awhile for her to soften him up. It wasn't like you were sheltered and not used to grittier people. Many Slayers were absolutely terrifying, so growing up around them had made it hard to surprise you.
That night you went to bed still concerned about your friend's safety. Easing yourself to sleep you dreamed of the day your brother's corpse was delivered to you. It was the higher ups that had brought him to your home. With little compassion in their eyes they ordered you to come up with a neat excuse and a funeral before anyone got suspicious.

Fear of the Dark (Levi x Reader)
You cursed your bladder as you quickly walked towards to bathroom. You could’ve told Mikasa to come with you, you know? you thought to yourself. But that thought quickly escaped your mind. Nobody knew about your fear of the dark. Nobody.
The farther you were from the comfort of your room, the more paranoid you became. [Name] relax, there’s nothing behind you. No, there isn’t. See, I just checked; nothing. No it wasn’t hiding when you checked. GET IT TOGETHER!
You were closed to tears from the sudden length of the bathroom door. “What if I missed a turn? Am I lost?̶

What You Are (Levi x Demon Reader)
Naturally, it came as quite a shock when you found out that your father was a demon. Not just a bad person – a literal demon, with horns and everything. Your mother had successfully hidden the truth from you for over two decades of your life, and because you had never used your demonic powers, your appearance remained human. That all changed when your duty as a Scout threw you into a dire situation. In order to save yourself and your comrades, you activated the powers that you didn’t even know you had. You were skilled enough as a human, but since that fateful moment, everything was heightened to superhuman levels – speed, strength, agility, perception. You also gained night vision, as well as the ability to manipulate shadows. The instant you unlocked your demonic powers, your appearance changed to reflect your heritage. You now had a barbed tail, black nails as sharp as claws, and horns that curved around your head like a crown. Your eyes were also unnaturally bright, as if the

Author's Note: This is a "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" crossover, and thus it may contain spoilers for that series. Please take care. ___________________________________________________________________________________ “Get out of here!” the young woman shouted. But Levi didn’t move. Most people would have been afraid. However, Levi was more curious than anything. Maybe a few years of being the top dog down here had given him a false sense of security. Regardless, he wasn’t about to leave without knowing who won this fight... The woman with the katana, or the monster that had attacked him. It had looked human, at first. Then Levi had noticed its slitted pupils, its claw-like fingernails, and its deathly paleness that was unnatural even in the Underground. Levi had fought the most powerful street lords in this city and never met his match. Yet, this thing was stronger and faster than him, by far. Levi didn’t know how this woman was keeping up with it. But she was. More than
